Unity is a cross-platform game engine with a built-in IDE developed by Unity Technologies. It is used to develop video games for web plugins, desktop platforms, consoles and mobile devices. It grew from an OS X supported game development tool in 2005 to a multi-platform game engine. The latest update, Unity 5.6, was released March 31, 2017. It currently supports development for iOS, Android, Android TV, Windows, Universal Windows Platform, macOS, Linux/SteamOS, web browsers, Flash, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, Playstation VR, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Nintendo 3DS, Oculus Rift, Google Cardboard Android & iOS, Steam VR PC & Mac, Gear VR, Windows Mixed Reality, Daydream, Samsung SMART TV, tvOS, Nintendo Switch, Fire OS, Facebook Gameroom, Apple ARKit, Google ARCore and Vuforia . Two versions of the game engine are available for download, Unity and Unity Pro.
