What is the point of this?

Isn't it obvious:

Increase you view distance to see further

Remove:
  1. Sky
  2. Fog
  3. Sun
  4. PostProduction/TV Static
  5. Smoke
  6. Grass
  7. Water
They are all visuals that make spotting stuff easier and in many cases increase FPS.

The lag may be caused by the ViewDistance increase, maybe your GFX card can't deal with the additional models it now has to render

compiling with default settings leaves alotta garbage in a binary, most people can't adjust settings properly
